UBC Land & Food Systems Student Services supports student engagement and career development, assisting with course registration, graduation checks, and academic planning. In my role, I supported the creation and coordination of marketing materials such as stickers, postcards, annual data reports, digital signage, and online certifications and badges.
Degree Stickers
Created a set of custom stickers representing the four majors within UBC’s Faculty of Land and Food Systems (LFS). These stickers were used for student recruitment during high school visits and student engagement at Imagine Day, UBC’s largest orientation event. Each design showcased key elements of its respective major to help students feel represented and connected to their academic community. The stickers were intended for use on personal items like laptops and water bottles, encouraging students to express their LFS pride across campus.
Badges & Certification
Designed and implemented digital badges and certificates to recognize students for their commitment as Orientation Leaders and Senior Orientation Leaders for UBC Imagine Day. These credentials were issued through Accredible, a digital badging and certification platform that is integrated with LinkedIn. Students could showcase their achievements in the Licenses & Certifications section of their LinkedIn profiles, with each credential linking directly to a verified Accredible page. This initiative helped students highlight their leadership experience and dedication in a professional and shareable format.
Digital Signage
Developed animated digital signage for display across all television monitors in the MacMillan Building, the primary facility for UBC’s Faculty of Land and Food Systems. This included prominent locations such as the main lobby and the Student Services Office. The signage communicated key updates on student hiring opportunities, engagement initiatives, upcoming events, and seasonal messages (e.g., holiday greetings or exam well-wishes). All content was strategically aligned with communications distributed via the LFS newsletter and social media platforms to ensure consistency in messaging, design, and visual identity. The incorporation of motion graphics enhanced visual engagement and contributed to an informative and cohesive student experience.
Postcards
Designed six unique postcard templates for new-to-UBC students in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems (LFS). Each postcard included space for handwritten messages from faculty, staff, current students, and professors, offering congratulations, encouragement, and advice to welcome incoming students. The postcards were distributed on Imagine Day, UBC’s official orientation and the first day students arrived on campus. Following the positive response, the team created an additional design for Orientation Leaders. This version allowed students in their orientation groups to write thank-you messages, recognizing their leaders’ support and guidance.
Canva (LMS) Module
Expanded my role beyond designing visual elements by authoring content for the Canvas module titled Student Leadership Portal, an internal platform accessed by over 70 student leaders and faculty members in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems. I contributed to modules such as Use Rule of Thirds or Hierarchy and Choose Colours and Contrast, which provide practical graphic design principles to support student leaders in creating visually effective materials throughout their leadership journey.
Data Assessment Report
Contributed to the development of the LFS Student Services Data Assessment Report, which outlines the department’s initiatives, programs, and their impact on the student community. The report features detailed data, statistical insights, and summaries of student-led programming to highlight the scope and effectiveness of student engagement efforts. I was responsible for designing the standardized layout template, developing the cover page, and visualizing key data points through clear and cohesive infographics to enhance overall readability. This project was a significant undertaking, as the final report was presented to the incoming Dean, Associate Dean, and all faculty and staff within the Faculty of Land and Food Systems.
